c. 100 AD
St. John the Apostle, the beloved disciple, wrote his Gospel and three epistles in Ephesus around the year 100 AD. The Fourth Gospel presents a profound theological vision of Christ as the divine Logos (Word) who became flesh. 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God' (John 1:1). John's Gospel emphasizes Christ's divinity, the mystery of the Eucharist, and the call to love one another.
John's three epistles reinforce the Gospel's themes: the importance of truth, love, and fellowship with God. He warns against false teachers and emphasizes that 'God is love' (1 John 4:8). John's writings form the theological foundation of the Catholic understanding of Christ's divine nature. Key Scripture: John 1:1-18; 1 John 4:8-16
