Jacob, whose name means 'supplanter,' wrestled with God at the Jabbok river and was renamed Israel, meaning 'he who wrestles with God.' He was the father of twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel. Though he deceived his father Isaac and brother Esau, God remained faithful to His covenant. Jacob blessed his sons with prophetic words before dying in Egypt at 147 years old.
