Ordained priest in 1815 during the post-Revolution restoration. Appointed parish priest of Ars in 1818βa neglected village of 500 souls. Transformed the parish through his preaching, confession, and personal holiness. People came from across Europe to spend days in confession with himβhe heard confessions up to 16 hours a day. His church became one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in France. Known for saying: 'The confessional is the priest's true throne.'
