β Biography
Simeon was a righteous and devout man in Jerusalem, waiting for the Consolation of Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him and revealed he would not die until he had seen the Lord's Christ. When Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus to the Temple for presentation, Simeon took Him in his arms and prayed the Nunc Dimittis: 'Lord, now You let Your servant depart in peace.' He prophesied that Jesus was a light to the Gentiles and glory to Israel, and warned Mary that a sword would pierce her soul. Simeon died in peace after seeing the Messiah.
