David was the youngest son of Jesse, a shepherd from Bethlehem. He slew the giant Goliath with a sling and stone, trusting in God. He became Saul's harpist, playing to calm the king's troubled spirit. After Saul's death, David became king of all Israel, conquering Jerusalem and bringing the Ark there. He wrote many Psalms. Though he sinned with Bathsheba, he repented deeply. God promised an eternal kingdom through his seed β Jesus Christ is the Son of David.
