Teresa's 'Interior Castle' is one of the greatest works of mystical theology ever written. She was the first woman to be named Doctor of the Church (1970). Her Discalced Carmelite order spread worldwide. She reformed Spanish spirituality and her writings remain essential reading for contemplative Christians.
