β Biography
Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael (known in Babylon as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) were taken to Babylon with Daniel. They refused to bow to Nebuchadnezzar's golden image, saying 'Our God is able to deliver us, but even if He does not, we will not serve your gods.' They were thrown into a fiery furnace seven times hotter than normal, but emerged unharmed. Nebuchadnezzar saw a fourth figure in the fire, 'like a son of the gods.' The king praised their God and promoted them.
