Born c.975 in Poland, daughter of a Polish duke. Married Henry I, Duke of Carinthia (later King of Germany) c.995. Known for her piety, charity, and chastity—she and Henry observed marital abstinence. Founded monasteries at Gößweinstein and Puch. After Henry's death in 1002, she retired to convent life. Supported the Gregorian Reform and the investiture controversy. Died Mar 3, 1033 at age 58. Canonized in 1200 by Innocent III. Patron of married couples and women.

🕊 Legacy
Cunegunda was the first queen to be canonized. Her radical poverty as a royal woman made her a model for all who serve the poor. She and her husband Henry II are the only imperial couple to be canonized together.
