β Biography
Abel was the second son of Adam and Eve, a keeper of sheep. He offered the firstlings of his flock to God, and his sacrifice was accepted. His brother Cain, a tiller of the ground, became jealous and killed him in the field. Abel became the first martyr, his blood crying out to God from the ground. Hebrews 11:4 commends his faith.
