✝ Biography
St. Blaise was a 4th-century bishop and martyr from Sebaste in Armenia. He was a physician who healed the sick without charge. When the Roman governor Margarus ordered him to sacrifice to pagan gods, he refused and was subjected to brutal torture — his flesh was scraped with iron combs and his head beaten with hammers. He was eventually beheaded around 316 AD. He is venerated as the patron saint against throat ailments, and the Blessing of Throats ceremony on his feast day (February 3) is a widespread Catholic tradition.
