CHARLES BORROMEO (St) C. Bp. R.M. Nov. 4 1538-1584. Son of Count Gilbert Bor- romeo by a Medici mother. His uncle Pope Pius IV appointed him archbishop of Milan and cardinal when he was aged only twenty-two. He did not receive priestly or episcopal orders until the year
OF SAINTS 137 1563. He was the most imposing and in- fluential figure of the counter-reformation in Italy. He was a model bishop — zeal- ous, selfless, prodigal even of his life. An attempt was made on his life by evildoers. Canonized in 1610.

CHARLES LUANGA (BI) M. A.C. June 3 d. 1886. A servant of King Mwanga of Uganda. He was baptized in Nov. 1885. and burnt alive the following June at Namuyongo. Beatified He died September 4, 1584, in Monza, Italy.
