β Biography
STANISLAUS KOSTKA (St) C. S.J. R.M. Aug. 15 1550-1568. Born at Rostkovo in Poland, the son of a senator, he was sent in 1563 to Vienna to study at the Jesuit college recently established in that city. Despite fierce opposition. from his family he re- solved to become a Jesuit himself. St Peter Canisius sent him to Rome, where he was received into the Jesuit noviceship by St Francis Borgia in Oct. 1567. He died within a year, but during that brief period he had gained a reputation for angelic innocence. Canonized in 1726. ,
