✝ Biography
Born Andrea Bacci on Jul 21, 1651 in Ajaccio, Corsica, to a noble Genoese family. Entered the Society of Jesus at 15. Served as secretary to Cardinal Rospigliosi (later Pope Clement IX). When the cardinal became pope, he offered Andrew high positions, but Andrew declined, preferring a simple life. Left the Jesuits to live as a lay brother in the Roman College, performing the humblest tasks—cooking, cleaning, and serving. Known for his humility, charity, and mystical prayer. Despite his noble birth, he insisted on being called 'Brother Andrew the Cook.' Died Feb 21, 1696 at age 44. Beatified in 1845 by Pius IX. He died of fever in 1697 after caring for plague victims.
